Nitrous Oxide bill. SB 664/ HB 841
Maryland dental hygienists will soon be able to monitor the use of nitrous oxide on their patients who are in need of pain management,. This form of analgesia is an excellent choice for those individuals too apprehensive to use the more traditional local anesthesia. Hygienists interested in performing this service for their patients will be required to take a state approved course. The state Dental Hygiene Committee will determine additional requirements. Stay tuned! Writing of the Rules and Regulations must be completed and approved by October 31, 2011. Every year, the Maryland General Assembly considers proposed legislation that affects the profession of dental hygiene. The Legislative Committee of the MDHA and it's local components actively monitor and lobby relevant issues involving our profession. We are represented in Annapolis by our lobbyist, Sandy Schrader.
During the Legislative Session, members can check on legislative issues by viewing information on our MDHA link. You can see that the MDHA supports many other organizations with their efforts to pass legislation.
