Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mission of the Howard County Dental Hygiene Referral Service?
This is a not-for-profit dental referral service for the temporary and permanent placements of Registered Dental Hygienists in dental practices. It was established in the spring of 1999, to strengthen the relationship between the dental association and the dental hygiene association in Howard County.

Who can participate in this service?
This is a unique member benefit for the members of the Howard County Dental Hygienists' Association and the members of the Howard County Dental Association. Print referral service policies.

Do I need to join this service?
Yes, both hygienists and dentists must complete an agreement and questionnaire.
Dentists print this questionnaire and page two.
Hygienists print this questionnaire.

What is the cost to join?
The cost is $25 for a one year membership for dentists. There is no cost to hygienists.

Are there any other fees involved?
Yes, there is a $25 fee per day for each temporary hygienist placed in your practice. Also, if you decide to permanently hire a temporary hygienist, there is an additional $200 fee.

What benefits do I receive for joining the service?
Hygienists will benefit by having a competitive salary and the convenience of working close to home.

Dentists will benefit by receiving reduced fees for placements of temporary and permanent dental hygienists in your practice. These fees help to defray the cost of operating this service. In addition, a portion of the net profits are contributed to the continuing education programs for both Associations.

Do you cover emergency situations?
No, we are not set up to provide emergency coverage. We require a minimum of two weeks notice to process your request. Temporary placements may include, but are not limited to coverage for vacations, maternity leave, planned sick leave and continuing education leave.

Who do I contact for more information?
